It is always interesting to see how many different aspects of life intertwine with sports and specifically baseball. Here are some famous people who have ties to the baseball world.
Danny Aiello and Michael Kay
Danny Aiello is an Academy Award winning actor known for his roles in movies like “Do the Right Thing”, “Moonstruck” and “Leon The Professional”. Being on camera runs in the family as his nephew is the television voice of the New York Yankees, Michael Kay. While Aiello played Sal Fragione, the owner of the Bed-Stuy institution Sal’s Famous Pizzeria, Kay lends his voice to another New York institution, Yankees baseball. Surely, this would have granted a space on the wall at Sal’s, though Buggin’ Out may have had his objections…
A. Bartlett Giamatti and Paul Giamatti
A Bartlett Giamatti was Commissioner of Baseball from 1986 until his untimely death in 1989. He is best known for presiding over the investigation and lifetime banishment of Pete Rose for betting on baseball. Many may not be aware that his son is none other than Paul Giamatti, known for his roles in “The Illusionist”, “Sideways” and portraying Jerry Heller in “Straight Outta Compton”.
Duane and Glen Kuiper
The San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics are the two Major League teams in the Bay Area. Not only are the teams located in the same region, but the same family occupies both television broadcast booths. Duane and Glen Kuiper call the games on television for the Giants and A’s respectfully. Safe to say that a love of baseball runs in the family. I first heard Duane Kuiper when I was a kid playing EA Sports: MVP Baseball 2003. To this day I can’t hear him say “It…is… OUTTA HERE!” without harkening back to the infancy of my baseball infatuation.
Klay and Trayce Thompson
Sports fans know Klay Thompson as being part of the Splash Brothers with Steph Curry on the Golden State Warriors. What you may not know is that his younger brother Trayce, has played professional baseball since 2009, including various Major League stints with various teams. He is currently playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. If you look closely, you may even find Klay in the stands at Dodger home games.
