Tyler Bremner is my favorite amateur prospect heading into the 2025 draft. He has a deceptive delivery that harkens back to the dominant years of Tim Lincecum with the Giants. When beginning his windup, Bremner keeps the ball behind his back which allows gives hitters less time to track the ball as the pitch is being thrown. His mechanics, while similar to Lincecum, are not as jerky and physically taxing on his body, allowing him to easily repeat the motion over and over. The unorthodox mechanics of Lincecum hindered his durability as he dealt with injuries that would derail his career.

Bremner has a good three pitch mix comprised of a fastball, changeup and slider to keep hitters guessing. The changeup in particular has tremendous late movement that buckles the knees of hitters. When they do offer at it the late break has them swinging over the top of the ball or inducing weak contact.

Bremner’s changeup pairs well with a high 90s fastball. While watching film, I observed Bremner utilizing the changeup down in the zone and then immediately followed with a high fastball to overwhelm the hitter, causing him to swing and miss. Being able to change speeds and location to keep hitters off balanced will serve him well in his professional career.

His slider is the pitch that needs work. When Bremner throws the pitch it has tremendous horizontal break. The issue is that often times he is not able to locate it in the strike zone and hitters lay off. Working to develop better command of the slider in the minor leagues will set Bremner up to have a stellar professional career.

After posting a 2.54 ERA in 2024 with a .184 Opponent Batting Average, Bremner is poised for another strong season at UCSB. A strong performance will help to position him to be one of the first names off of the draft board in July.
