Joe Kelly: The Chicago White Sox ran away with the AL Central lead last year coasting to the postseason. Their pitching staff was a big reason for their success. Adding Kelly to the bullpen makes them even more dominant and bolsters and already stellar bullpen. I want to say that they will run away with it again this year but the Twins and Tigers seem to be serious about competing. Ultimately, the White Sox will win the division but the division match ups in the Central will be fun to watch. This is refreshing for a division that has been one of the weakest in baseball in recent memory.

Correa: Carlos Correa signing with the Twins is interesting. His contract reminds me of Trevor Bauer’s of last offseason with the Dodgers. Correa signed a three year deal worth $105M with opt outs after each year. This deal came about because Correa fired his last agent and signed with Scott Boras, the Ari Gold of sports agents. Boras is well known for getting his clients the biggest and best deals possible. If Correa had signed a massive contract the money would be split between Boras and Correa’s previous agency. Ideally, Correa will play in Minnesota for a year, put up monster numbers once again, then opt out of his contract and secure the bag (get paid) somewhere else, wherein Boras reaps all the rewards.
Correa is going to get paid handsomely and barring sexual assault allegations and injury, will opt out and sign a long term deal. The Twins have made moves to improve the team but have not addressed their pitching woes. They may have a better lineup but everything will come out in the wash. Don’t expect Correa to be a Twin for too long but enjoy his performance and the boos that come when the Twins play on the road.
